PRIOR RESTRAINT MEDIA
Welcome to Prior Restraint, a digital news platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of freelance reporters. As traditional news outlets face layoffs and mergers, our platform offers a space for critical stories that may otherwise go untold.
Empowering Freelance Reporters, Educating Tomorrow's Journalists
WHO WE ARE & WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.
-
At Prior Restraint, we are committed to supporting freelance journalists through a unique business model. We partner with colleges and universities to offer remote courses in investigative reporting. The revenue generated from these courses is then reinvested to pay our freelance journalists.
-
Investigative journalism courses are scarce in undergraduate programs due to the challenges of finding qualified professors and the high cost of hiring them. Through direct partnerships with educational institutions, we make registration convenient for students, ensuring a reliable revenue stream year after year.
-
Prior Restraint's mission is to publish impactful stories that hold the powerful accountable. We believe in the importance of investigative journalism in uncovering truth and driving positive change in society.
-
Prior Restraint is an attempt by the government to censor and stop a story from publishing — it is a far greater breach of freedom of expression than anything else. By naming our media organization Prior Restraint, we are reasserting our First Amendment right to publish critical stories about powerful people and systems that refuse to accept responsibility for their actions, neglecting the victims left in their wake.
